CMCA's Mission

CMCA is an initiative of Public Affairs Centre. CMCA seeks to educate and engage young people actively in the process of reclaiming civic virtues and citizenship and complement the ongoing efforts of civil society organisations in that direction.

Objectives

• To sensitise civic club members to civic and environmental issues and to make them knowledgeable about these issues.
• To create awareness among others in the school with respect to civic sense and other civic and environmental issues and to spread this awareness to homes and friends of school children.
• To energise the civic education curriculum in schools.
• To create a core of active citizens in society.
• Develop a model for civic education, which can be implemented in any part of the country.

Why Children?

• They have a tremendous potential in influencing people & mediating change.
• Active and responsible children grow up to become active and responsible citizens.

Civic Club Model - We can influence the present and shape our future!

Central to the concept and practices of CMCA is the Civic Club - a voluntary association of students in a given school to promote children's participation in activities concerning civic and environmental issues. The school allots one class period per week for the civic club during which all CMCA activities like the sessions, campaign planning, multimedia presentation viewing are carried out. The Civic Club is the epicentre of the ripple effect. Skilled volunteers or teacher coordinators conduct the civic club sessions and are facilitators for all the civic club activities in the year.
