What We Do

Curriculum to impart citizenship and life skills education at schools, colleges, and rural libraries

CMCA’s citizenship education programmes empower young people with an understanding of democratic values and citizenship to become active citizens who will work towards a better India for all. We adopt an experiential and interactive approach and enable students to develop key values, life skills, and a commitment towards active citizenship.

Students are encouraged to investigate and identify issues in their communities, and find solutions by raising awareness, engaging with local authorities, and starting movements. They also develop democratic values of justice, equality, sustainability, and inclusivity. This is done at schools, colleges, and rural libraries.

Our programmes also aim to equip students with crucial life skills that are intertwined with active citizenship.  On the way to becoming active citizens through CMCA’s programmes, young people learn specific life skills such as empathy, critical thinking, effective communication, problem solving, and interpersonal skills including teamwork.

CMCA carries out important policy research and advocacy work, predominantly through our pioneering study, the Yuva Nagarik Meter, which records attitudes on various kinds of civic values amongst the youth. The findings from our research help us in creating and updating our own curricula, and in advocating for reforms in governmental education policy.

CMCA’s programmes are designed to fulfill our vision of empowered young people living by the values of democracy, in harmony with nature, engaged in collective action for equitable development.
