Karnataka’s makkala grama sabhas play an important role in inducting children into the democratic process. Here’s what they need to function more effectively.

The event was held on Tuesday morning at the Bangalore Traffic Park beside Bowring Institute, and was attended by 50 students and 50 traffic policemen.

The event was organised by CMCA, a non-profit organisation to culminate a three-month programme where its volunteers made students aware of the role of traffic police.

The ‘Celebrating Namma Bengaluru’s Traffic Police’ event was held on Tuesday morning at the Bangalore Traffic Police Park and was attended by 50 students from several city schools and 50 Traffic Police constables along with M. Abdulla Saleem, Additional Director General of Police and Special Commissioner of Police (Traffic).

Over 50 children from about half a dozen schools in the city came together on Tuesday morning at the Traffic Police Park on St Mark’s Road to befriend Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP).

Distributing thank you cards, poems and roses to the traffic policemen, the schoolchildren said they were happy to attend the programme.

Makkala Grama Sabha, or the children’s village sabha, is an initiative held occasionally to include children within the democratic framework. It aims to provide equal standing and opportunity for children to voice their opinions and concerns.
